[ARCHIVED] FEMA and FCC to Conduct First Nationwide Emergency Alert Test

The primary objective of the test is to do the first, end-to-end activation of the nationwide emergency alert system. It will be transmitted via a format known as the Radio and Television Integrated Public Alert and Warning System. The primary difference from previous local tests will be that on TV, the banner will appear different. On radio, you will notice a difference in the audio message. In the future, the system will be used when the President needs to address the American public due to a national crisis.
