  1. Gardening with California Native Plants: Why, How, What and Where

    July 11, 2020, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Library's Zoom

The Larkspur Library is proud to host a workshop with UC Marin Master Gardener Bob Mauceli to teach us how to garden with California native plants. California is home to thousands of native plants. Marin County, with its Mediterranean climate, is a locale where many of the best of these can be grown. Because native plants have co-evolved with native birds, butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects, and mammals; planting them in our gardens will help maintain these populations. And using native plants can help gardeners build a beautiful landscape that uses less water and chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Marin Master Gardener Bob Mauceli has been a Master Gardener for over 16 years and is now co-chair of the Marin Master Gardener Native Plants Guild. Bob is also a member of the California Native Plant Society and has been a birder for almost 50 years. This is event is made possible by the Friends of the Larkspur Library.

  10. Larkspur Library Book Club: Special Edition: The Other Wes Moore

    July 22, 2020, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Library Zoom

Join the Larkspur Library for a special edition of the book club to discuss Wes Moore’s book The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates. Two kids named Wes Moore were born blocks apart within a year of each other. Both grew up fatherless in similar Baltimore neighborhoods and had difficult childhoods; both hung out on street corners with their crews; both ran into trouble with the police. How, then, did one grow up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other ended up a convicted murderer serving a life sentence? Wes Moore, the author of this fascinating book, sets out to answer this profound question. In alternating narratives that take readers from heart-wrenching losses to moments of surprising redemption, The Other Wes Moore tells the story of a generation of boys trying to find their way in a hostile world. This event is made possible by the Friends of the Larkspur Library. Join today!
