Interlibrary Loan and LINK+

Searching for Items Outside the MARINet Library System

If the item that you are looking for is not available within the MARINet Library network, you may be able to use our library services to locate and borrow the item from another library system in Northern California or the United States as a whole.

The Larkspur Library is a member of the LINK+ network, which gives us access to the holdings of many public and academic libraries across California and Nevada. Using LINK+, you can directly request up to 10 million book, video and audio titles. Items are delivered within 7-10 days.

You can place a LINK+ request yourself or ask library staff to help you. Placing a LINK+ is almost the same as placing a hold through the regular library catalog - you will need your library card number and PIN. If you would like library staff to assist you, contact the Library at (415) 927-5005.

Interlibrary Loan

We can borrow books, videos, audiobooks, periodical articles, or microforms that are not available in the MARINet catalog or LINK+ using Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan are requested from public and academic libraries throughout the United States.

Borrowing a book via Interlibrary Loan usually takes one to three weeks to fill, but can be much longer if the item is rare or recently published. The cost per item is $5.00.

Contact the Library at (415) 927-5005 to place an ILL request. When the item arrives, you will be contacted by phone or email.

We do not recommend placing ILLs for items which were published less than six months ago. Most libraries will not lend these materials because they are new, and will have high demand in their own libraries.
